I'd been using winpt 1.3.1 even newer versions were available long ago, because I find winpt after 1.3.1 can not be used to sign Chinese characters.
This is Chinese characters for "China" 中国.
when signed with winpt 1.3.1, it shown correctly

when signed with newer version > 1.4.0, the Chinese characters corrupted. and winpt will crush if you try to "Sign and Encrypt" Chinese characters.
