Cannot sign/encrypt with imported certificate

I have a number of existing certificates and want to sign/encrypt files with them.

When I import a certificate, it appears in my list of trusted certificates but I am unable to use it to encrypt files. Only my own certificate, listed in bold and created within Kleopatra can be used to encrypt/sigh files.

Is this correct behaviour? How can I use imported certificates to encrypt files?

Hi Adrian,

(assuming that we are talking about CMS certs for S/MIME)

to use a different private key, you’ll have to make sure the full chain of certificates is imported and the root certification is trusted. Marking the root as trusted is a manual process.
