GnuPG v2.4.2 [ Reply ]
By: Dom Hughes on 2023-06-04 08:17
[forum:8905]
The SUMo software monitor http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?sumo has been telling me about a new GnuPG version for some time now. The current version on https://gnupg.org/download/index.html is v2.4.2.

Should we be updating to this version, even though Gpg4win hasn't been updated?

Thanks!

TPM support [ Reply ]

GnuPG 4.3 added support for loading private keys to TPM: https://gnupg.org/blog/20210315-using-tpm-with-gnupg-2.3.html

However, when I tried to move my key to TPM using the `keytotpm` command, I received

> gpg: error from TPM: Not supported

My system have AMD fTPM enabled and I am currently using BitLocker with TPM 2.0.

"gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found" error when importing public key from sks [ Reply ]

Good afternoon, I have an sks server installed, which synchronizes with kleopatra, I create a pair of openPGPG keys, which I then publish to the sks server and it does it successfully, but when I execute the search option, it throws me the following error, as shown in the image

gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found
gpg: Total amount processed: 0
I have installed Gpg4win 4.1.0 and a sks 1.1.6 server

Command Line Decrypting without PassPhrase [ Reply ]
By: Jeremiah Campbell on 2023-05-11 12:49
[forum:8893]
I recently had to move my automated powershell tasks from one VM to newer device. On the previous device (Win10) the following line worked WITHOUT needing to enter the password every time. (FYI, the material is sensitive, I cannot use a key w/out a password/phrase)

gpg --output "C:\working\Test.pdf" --decrypt "C:\working\Test.pgp"

On the new device (Win Server 2019), the password dialog frequently is required. Occasionally it's in the GPG cache, but usually it'll ask for the pass phrase. Evidently when I originally wrote these scripts I neglected to include notes for the gpgconf and/or options I used to achieve this goal. And I havn't found any clues in my old backups either.

I tried something new, by adding it to the command line, like so...

gpg --passphrase-fd "MY_PHRASE_HERE" --batch --output "C:\working\Test.pdf" --decrypt "C:\working\Test.pgp"

Unfortunately this line will just hang up the command. I have to use CTRL-Break to return to the command prompt. I tried putting the phrase into a file instead... but that's not working either. Besides, entering the passphrase in the batch file or other file isn't the most secure method.

I know I found a way around this before, but I can't remember how I did it. Any thoughts?

cannot run as administrator [ Reply ]

kleo_error.jpg (5) downloads
Every time I start Kleopatra I get a pop up warning (see the attached screen shot):
"Kleopatra cannot be run as administrator without breaking file permissions in the GnuPG data folder.
To manage keys for other users please manage them as a normal user and copy the 'AppData\Roaming\gnupg' directory with proper permissions.
Are you sure that you want to continue?"

But I run Kleopatra as a normal user.
Moreover I am not able to "opy the 'AppData\Roaming\gnupg' directory with proper permissions."
Please help. Thanks.
p.s. I click on continue and Kleopatra seems to work correctly, but I'd like to understand this warning anf get rid of it.

Thanks

No Secret Key [ Reply ]

Hi I had issues while decrypting my 2fa messages so I created a new key and I am still getting the same error

The GPGME library returned an unexpected
error at gpafiledecryptop.c:538. The error was:

No secret key

This is either an installation problem or a bug in GPA.
GPA will now try to recover from this error.

Details of the error:
[GPA 0.10.0, GPGME 1.17.2-beta65, GnuPG 2.4.0]
gpg: encrypted with RSA key, ID 37C3F700F99522CD
gpg: public key decryption failed: No secret key
gpg: decryption failed: No secret key

Please help to fix this!

PGP-2 public key issue [ Reply ]
By: brian jones on 2023-04-18 21:17
[forum:8860]
I have version 4.1 installed on my windows server.
I have a keyring that was copied over from a previous server, version unknown.
I have a key in this pubring that Kleopatra is identifying as a PGP-2 key and as such seems to be denying and all existence of this key. When I export all public keys and try importing them there is always one key not being imported.

This key worked for me in March but in April it is not working any more. The message is that the key cannot be found.

I am at a loss as to what happened. I did not upgrade my version of GPG. I have the same version on multiple servers and workstations, and they all are experiencing the same issue.

Any insight or guidance on this please? Customer is obviously not pleased with the answer of I know your key worked before and it just does not now, and I do not know why.

Thanks

torbrowser-install-win64-12.0.4_ALL.exe.asc
There doesn't seem to be any .asc file for gpg4win, the attachment below shows where i'm lost, how can i use this information to verify the integrity of gpg4win?

Encrypt in Kleopatra on Windows 11 is broken. [ Reply ]

I'm quite tech savvy to start. I installed the latest version of Kleopatra and created a new RSA 4,096 key with pass phrase.

Another system used my public key to send me a message, put that message in a file and decrypted the file successfully, ok we're off.

So to test this I decided I should encrypt and decrypt a message to myself to make sure everything is working. I encrypt the clipboard and select myself as the recipient, I paste that into a file to verify it looks good, BEGIN PGP ENCRYPTED MESSAGE, ok so far so good.

I go back to Kleopatra and in the Clipboard menu decrypt is grey. I try to decrypt the file, no it tells me it cannot determine what it is?

Now, if I use my public key to encrypt using a website (https://8gwifi.org/pgpencdec.jsp), I can decrypt that output from a file or from the clipboard in Kleopatra! I tried the same website, encrypt and decrypt using my public and private keys and that works fine. I encrypt with Kleopatra and try to decrypt using the site... nope it will not decrypt the text encrypted with Kleopatra. It also works fine in GnuPGK which I found online, except if I encrypt with Kleopatra that won't decrypt it either.

The text from Kleopatra encrypt looks like this:

-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----

<ENCRYPTED TEXT>

-----END PGP MESSAGE-----

It does not include version info. I tried an older version of Kleopatra, 3.1.16, same thing. I am selecting RSA and RSA+ when I create my key but I don't think the key is the issue as it works fine on the website.

EDIT: If I use the Notepad feature in Kleopatra it encrypts and decrypts fine. If I encrypt with the clipboard Encrypt feature it does not decrypt in Notepad or from Clipboard, if I encrypt with Notepad it will decrypt from clipboard. Encrypt in Kleopatra on Windows 11 is broken.

--rfc4880 option doesn't work after upgrading from gpg4win 4.0.3 to 4.1.0 [ Reply ]

We encrypt some files with the option --rfc4880, because a particular recipient got the error "unknown packet type 20". This worked, the files could be decrypted. But after we upgraded gpg4win from version 4.0.3 to version 4.1.0 this doesn't work anymore. We use the same command in our script but the recipient gets the error "unknown packet type 20", just like before we added the --rfc4880 option.
We deinstalled version 4.1.0 and reinstalled version 4.0.3 and now the recipient can decrypt the files again.
So I think this is a bug in version 4.1.0 of gpg4win.
Is this a bug and is there another way to get the same results (as with the --rfc4880 option) which still works in version 4.1.0?
Windows version: Windows server 2016
gpg version which works: 2.3.7
gpg version whih doesn't work: 2.4.0
