Summary:
Openvasd: unrecognized service

Detailed description
Openvas scanner and client installed under CentOS5 running on Dell "pizza box" server.

I have previously successfully run scans from this server.

OpenvasD does not appear on the list of recognised services on Linux.

OpenvasD cannot be run manually from the command line.

Linux insists that openvas-scanner is installed.

But I cannot run any scans.

Version of OpenVAS is actually 3.1.0.3

openvas-scanner 3.1.0-4 is now available from atomic, can you test this out and let me know if it resolves the problem for you?

correct: openvas-nvt-sync

I think I used the Atomic repository.

Which update script? openvas-nvt-sync?

Which repository did you use to install openvas?

The update script still has openvasd instead of openvasSd in it. I have manually corrected this.

Thanks for the info!

With version 3.x, openvas-server was renamed to openvas-scanner. Other optional daemons were introduced and openvasd was renamed to openvassd (2 "S", ~scanner daemon).
You should be able to start openvassd manually.

I have no CentOS box available, but my guess would be that an init script resides in /etc/init.d/openvas-scanner .

Please close this bug if the name change of openvasd to openvassd was the problem.

just to add: CentOS5 is fully patched and up to date and is not running SELinux.
