SmartCard detection works with Outlook but not with Thunderbird

Hi all

Gpg4win 4.0 works perfectly with my “OpenPGP Smart Card V3.4” in relations of Kleopatra and MS Outlook.

If i send an encrypted Mail and try to open it in Outlook, Outlook promts me to connect my SmartCard and to enter the pin.
Only then the mail becomes decrypted.
So far so good, everything as expected

Another chapter seems to be Thunderbird (version 95.5.1 | 64bit) with “mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg” = true.
Same procedure as above, but no “Connect SmartCard” or “Enter Pin” promt. The same mail as above remains encrypted.

What exactly do i have to enter in “mail.openpgp.alternative_gpg_path”?
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Gpg4win\bin_64” does not work.

Kindly apperciate every hint!

Kind regards

Hi Stefan,

maybe you could give the full paths to the gpg.exe binary. However I am under the impression that Thunderbird is using gpgme, so a path should not really be necessary.
Or you need to have your public key imported in Thunderbird as well before it works?

My suggestion is to ask this question to Thunderbird.

(And maybe also ask them if they make a full GnuPG support? )

Our hints for Thunderbird usage are here, btw: https://wiki.gnupg.org/EMailClients/Thunderbird

Best Regards
Bernhard
