Once emails are decrypted by Kleopatra, the attachment still does not show me the extension and we need to always guess the file type

Kleopatra automatically includes the original file extension when encrypting (e.g. “spreadsheet.xls.gpg”), so my guess is the sender is using a different method to encrypt the files. (Possibly the command line.)
You will have to ask the sender to include the original file extension (as in the above example) if you want Kleopatra to automatically decrypt the file to the proper type.

Ah. I’m not familiar with this particular product. Perhaps you could ask the sender to list the original filenames in the body of the email.

When Windows users leave the (usually) default File Explorer setting in place to hide known file extensions, upon attaching such a file to an Outlook email message, etc., the extension is then lost, and not able to be seen by recipients.
